September marks National Preparedness Month, so we selected books that help you talk to kids about emergencies, preparation plans and staying safe

Playtown: Emergency Lift the Flap Book by Roger Priddy. An interactive book for babies to learn about firefighters, police, paramedics, lifeguards and rescue vehicles. Fun lift-the-flap activities help with fine motor. Recommended for infants.

Plan and Prepare! by Charles Ghigna. A thoughtful book to help kids plan for fire safety using catchy songs and kid-friendly pictures. It's never too early to learn life-saving skills. Recommended for toddlers.

The Breaking News by Sarah Lynne Reul. When bad news breaks out on the TV, the grownups are overwhelmed and the children are confused. Luckily, they learn to help others through small, kind deeds. An insightful book to spark discussions. Recommended for elementary schoolers.
