Rainbow Cake in a Jar

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake, plus ingredients called for on the box

  • Food coloring: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue & purple

  • Vanilla frosting (canned or homemade)

  • 6 8oz clear jars

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, fill a 13x9 baking dish with 3/4 cup water, set aside

  2. Spray jars well with nonstick cooking spray

  3. Prepare cake batter according to box instructions

  4. Separate the batter equally into six bowls (approx 2/3 cup of batter in each bowl

  5. Use your six different food colors to tint each bowl of batter a different color

  6. Fill each jar with approx 2 tablespoons of each of the colored batters. Wipe any access batter from the rim. After wiping, if needed, re-spray the area with non stick cooking spray

  7. Place batter filled jars into baking dish that has been filled with water

  8. Bake 25-30 minutes or until tops are set

  9. Let cakes cool for 15 minutes, then, remove from pan

  10. Cool completely before frosting

Note: Be sure not to fill your jars past the rim with batter. It may look like you don't have much batter in them, but, once baked, it will rise. It will still leave plenty of room for frosting
