Build a Blubber Glove

#Summerreading (2).png

Materials

  • Bucket

  • Ice

  • Shortening

  • Ziploc bags

Directions

  1. Fill a bucket halfway with cold water. Layer in ice (you're re-creating near-freezing waters of the polar regions)

  2. Fill a ziploc bag big enough to fit your whole hand with 3-4 tbsps of shortening

  3. Put your hand inside a second ziploc bag and push it into the shortening-filled bag

  4. Spread the shortening around the bags until the inner bag is mostly covered.

  5. Fold the top of the inner bag over the top of the outer bag, keeping the shortening between the two. Duct tape the fold in place so that the shortening doesn't come out

  6. Now you have a blubber-filled glove! Test the frigid waters of the bucket - stick your hand in the glove and dip into the icy water.
