Magnetic Pipe Cleaners

Materials

• Empty plastic box or water bottle

• Pipe cleaners cut into 1 inch strips

• Craft stick

• Magnet

• Hot glue gun

Directions

1. Fill the water bottle with pipe cleaner strips

2. Secure the top with tape

3. Hot glue the magnet onto the end of the craft stick - this is your new “magnetic wand”

4. Drag the magnetic wand along the side of the box from bottom to top. As the wand inches up, so will several pipe cleaners

What’s Happening
Magnets attract certain types of metal – pulling them close. Since the pipe cleaners have a thin strip of metal, the magnet is able to attract the pieces and pull them around the clear plastic box.
