New year, new books. Start 2021 with some fresh additions to your family library. We love these books for their ability to spark imagination, build confidence & inspire creativity.

Master list & short summaries are below. Quick tip - don’t be afraid to age up or down a bit, particularly if you think the subject matter is of special interest to your child.

INFANTS

  • A Story About Afiya by James Berry. Young Afiya wears a special white dress that picks up images of whatever she passes - sunflowers, butterflies, fish, or falling leaves.

  • Happy New Year, Spot! A festive board book with our favorite puppy who might not make it to midnight. Grab your party hat and start the countdown

  • You Matter by Christian Robinson. In this full, bright, and beautiful picture book, many different perspectives around the world are deftly and empathetically explored—from a pair of bird-watchers to the pigeons they’re feeding.

TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS

  • There’s a Superhero in Your Book by Tom Fletcher. A superhero needs your help to protect his precious book from the evil Scribbler. Kiddos must lift, shake, and tap to join in on the action to help save the day.

  • The Couch Potato. Facing screentime overload? 2020 meant lots of time at home. This adorable picture book reminds us to peel ourselves off the couch, drop the devices and go for a walk outside with our favorite pal-tato.

  • Lift by Minh Lê. Iris loves to push the elevator buttons in her apartment building, but when it's time to share the fun with a new member of the family, she's pretty put out. That is, until the sudden appearance of a mysterious new button opens up entire realms of possibility.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS

  • Katie the Catsitter by Colleen AF Venable. Katie agrees to watch Ms. Lang's 217 cats. But is Ms. Lang actually the notorious Moustress?

  • Exploring the White House: Inside America’s Famous Home. Browse interviews from current and former dedicated White House staff in this informative and fun book for young history buffs.

  • The One and Only Bob by Katherine Applegate. Bob sets out on a dangerous journey in search of his long-lost sister with the help of his two best friends, Ivan and Ruby. As a hurricane approaches and time is running out, Bob finds courage he never knew he had and learns the true meaning of friendship and family.
