4 Reasons We Love Graphic Novels

Graphic novels seem to be everywhere these days. Our 7-year-old is borderline obsessed with the Babysitters Club & all of Raina Telgemeier books. I was a little gun shy on graphic novels at first - do they count as books? Are they “real” literature? I asked the experts & did some research and turns out there’s a lot of literary love for graphic novels. Here’s why…

  • They’re fast-paced. Extra enticing for kids who prefer a lot of “action”

  • They’re loaded with images. Images are engaging and informative, particularly for emerging readers

  • They’re great for re-reading. Lots of action on each page allows readers to discover new details with every re-read

  • They’re books. Quantity matters. It’s not what kids read, but how often they read
