Make a Skittles Rainbow
This is great excuse to play with a treat while learning a bit of science.
Materials
Skittles
White plate
Water
Directions
Arrange your Skittles in a circle around a white plate. Extra points for following rainbow order
Carefully pour water onto the plate. If the Skittles move, gently push them back into place.
Watch what happens
Bonus - try the experiment two times. Once with hot water & once with cold water. Time both.
Why Does It Work?
Skittles are coated in food coloring and sugar. When you pour water over the skittles the colored coating dissolves spreading through the water. The color and sugar dissolve into the water and then diffuse through the water, making it the color of the Skittle.
