Layers of the Earth Play Dough
Materials
3 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
6 tbsps cream of tartar
3 tbsps vegetable oil
3 cups water
Directions
Add all ingredients to a pot, mix until all the lumps are gone.
Move pot to stove & cook over low heat, stirring often. The dough should thicken in a few minutes.
Once dough starts pulling away from sides, remove from heat. Cool in pot.
Divide dough into six balls: two small (golf ball-sized), two medium and two large.
Add several drops of food coloring into each ball. Small balls: 1 red, 1 green. Medium: 1 orange, 1 brown. Large: 1 yellow, 1 blue. Knead each ball separately to blend color.
Build the layers of the Earth.
Red - the solid inner core
Orange - the liquid outer core
Yellow - the mantle (the thickest layer)
Brown - the Earth’s crust (made of rocks)
Blue & Green - the oceans & Earth
