Baking Soda Ice Cubes
Explore the reaction between baking soda and vinegar
Materials
Ice cube tray (we like this one)
Food coloring
Baking soda
Water
Vinegar
Directions
Mix some baking soda with water. Add food coloring.
Freeze for a few hours or overnight.
Head outside (this experiment can get messy)
Let the cubes defrost a little, and then add some vinegar. Watch the magic
What’s Happening
Vinegar (an acid ) and baking soda ( an alkali ) react together to neutralize each other. This reaction releases carbon dioxide, a gas which is the bubbles you see.
